i grew up thinking it all rather harmless door-knocking and not having christmas, (which seemed pretty grim to a kid in itself) now, however, i have begun a relationship with a jw, well, an 'inactive' (i think you say) witness.

Welcome to the board. You have come to the right place as many have experienced a similar thing which can help. It can take a long time to de program from the effects of being a witness. I would also say that once he gets officially booted out things may change for him as far as being shunned by family/friends etc. Once you can get him to address the history and failings of the religion, he can come to terms with it and move on (over time). Being disfellowshipped often helps that process as the injustness of it kicks in, and your completely away from their influence. I think its great that your willing to find out about this and gain a level of understanding about it, realising it is a huge thing to overcome, i'm sure many of us wished we had that type of support. Hope it all works out - keep us informed

Abstaining from Blood-Eating meat etc.

when we consider the entire blood issue, does any jws consider that everytime we eat any meat at all we are partaking of blood?

heck, my understanding of nursing is that babies often get a good dose of mothers blood-you would not believe what the lactation consultants say you have to nurse through!!

so then, after looking at the bible instructions about blood, would not one need to consider the context?

When you consider that we dont consume blood by infusing it into our veins, rather it acts as a carrier of oxygen etc. It kinda shows that when you allow people (GB) to set your christian conscience for you, who have little of no knowledge of science, they can make all sorts of crazy claims and say its biblical.

whoever can answer a few qs for me i would be grateful!.

i would really like to know why wittnesses shun people at meetings or weddings or social gatherings.

i understand the need and desire for members of the church to help other wittnesses back into the fold after they have committed a serious sin!

There are some real lame people out there - even mild mannered people change once behind the wheel! I do driving for my profession and I see it all the time, thankfully I tend to be pretty laid back most of the time, but when someone deliberately puts you in real danger - yeah it can mess your mood up for the day. Try reading the topic on JW pets that will make you laugh I garantee!

Parakeet you are so on the money with your comments - I wasnt attending for 8 months, had spoken to an Elder to say I will no longer attend and moved away, wasnt known for being a brother and then when they could DF me they came after me with a vengence.

Elders Are Closing In....

well, it's been about 6 months or so since i've turned in a time report and things are heating up a bit.

i still attend the meetings with my wife - i am still "visible" - but i have not gone out in service for a conspicuous amount of time.

just this afternoon the po called and wanted to meet with me.

When I stopped associating, I hadn't come here or anywhere online at that time, all i knew was that for me personally it made me unhappy to attend. I had feelings of guilt and not being worthy, i'd seen the lack of love and the politics of the congregation, I knew there was no paradise in the bible and that it was written for the anointed (NT). So I called in my book study overseer and said I am no longer attending as I dont agree with some of the teachings, and that he'd have to move the group from my house and re-asign a reader. Dont get me wrong I still felt they had some power over me at that time, but I couldnt put myself through it any longer.

I was left alone and still associated with those I wanted, until they had something to DF me on 8 months later, even though I had moved away and was not known as a brother. So what i'm saying is that some bodies of elders will let things go as long as you dont stir it up. I didnt really care what happened as I had had enough of it all.
